Can I leave some fields blank and fill them in after printing?

The DOL has stated that doing this will be acceptable for 1999 forms ONLY, however we'd recommend against doing this, and here's why… The process goes something like this… the barcode at the bottom of the form is read. If their system detects a required piece of data that is missing, the form is forwarded to a human who looks for any data entered after the form was printed. Unfortunately, there are potential problems with this methodology: · The data might not be a required field, so it wouldn't go through the secondary review. · The field may be part of a calculation, thus causing bad data on the printed portion of the form. It's unknown how they would resolve this.
